the Ideal

I met my first Chow in 1988
at the age of 16, can’t remember what his name was but he was a cute black boy, OK he looked more Rastafarian with the
burnt red dreadlocks from living outside, but even though his grooming was neglected he still had the regal air of each and
every Chow in him. I was smitten….
In 1989 a school friend of
mine got a gorgeous red rough male, called Ming he was the most Handsome Dog I have ever seen in my life, unfortunately a
couple of months later Johan was shot and killed and I don’t know what happened to Ming afterwards, Johan is always
in my thoughts and so is Ming, I finished school and went on to study for 3 years, I moved out on my own and always Johan
and Ming shadowed my thoughts, living in a flat at that time did not allow me to fulfill my dream of owning a chow one day.
Note I said owning a Chow not knowing at that stage that a Chow owns you.
Then in 2001 I met a beautiful
little Red Girl called Zena, owned by Marle Treurnicht, and through Zena and searching for info on the Net about Chows , my
Rescue boy, Bobby found me. Unfortunately I lost my little Angelboy, he went
to the Bridge 24 October 2005. Through the love and devotion of this little boy
I came to realize that a Chow owns you not the other way round.
A couple of years
back I met Vanessa and I really liked her Chows, specifically Taipan, he was what I wanted in a Chow, I was told by a select
few that I shouldn’t ask her for a Chow as she won’t give me a puppy. When
Vanessa imported Tanaka, I knew that her and Taipan is what I was looking for in a Chow, I gathered up all my courage and
phoned her one evening to ask her for a puppy, and joined the waiting list. After
a couple of years of patient waiting my baby was born on the 18th of June 2005, Kimekai Samuri’s Legacy AKA
Shinto.
In time, I will venture into
the showring and start breeding but for now I am content in being owned by my little silver (Fawn/Cinnamon) haired boy, and
enjoy the friendship of Vanessa and Melanie Nicolau, who loves Shinto as much as Gerhard and I do.
